February 15, 2009 - Classic closed out some old Hermitage a few years ago, and this was one of them. The color was brick red, with some clearing at the rim. Still quite aromatic, with dark fruit, kirsch, mint and some c spices (clove, cardomon) on the nose. In the mouth, a wave of black fruit, but mainly brown/black notes of tobacco, licorice, coffee, pepper. Still with excellent structure (still get a little tannic backbone!), and a finish with excellent clarity. Great with grilled steak and vegetables (cauliflower and acorn squash) with olive oil and anchovy sauce. The oldest Hermitage we have had, and a treat.
