February 26, 2022 - Purchased a few years ago from Wegmans. I was skeptical, but price was reasonable. Label was in pristine condition. Opened last night on OTBN and paired with beef bourguignon.

Agree with many of the previous notes. Opened with an ah-so. Cork was in great shape - firm with staining only at the bottom. Poured into glasses and let it air out for about 30 minutes. Color was excellent with minimal bricking. Nose was very pretty and complex with dried red fruit, floral, used coffee grounds. Palate was rich, silky with sweet dried cherries and balanced by acidity that went beautifully with the food. This is the best old Burgundy I’ve had.

12/17/22, 2:30 PM - If you knew the history of how Wegmans got into the wine business and why Rochester, NY was one of the biggest Burgundy towns in the US post WW2 until the turn of this century you wouldn't be skeptical in the least. Before the era of modern wine critics and the stratospheric prices of today, Burgundy wasn't expensive and the growers weren't wealthy. Before Kodak's demise they were the biggest employer in Burgundy where their European plant was located on the Saone river. Since they were the industrial engine of Burgundy their executives drank great stuff. The liquor store across the street from their HQ in Rochester stepped in and created their own importer and supplied Rochester with great Burgundy. Remoissenet is a spotty negotiant with great and not so great wines. The Kodak connection ensured that the wine that Century bought was their best . Danny Wegman's daughter bought the store and inventory when they expanded into markets where grocery stores could sell wines. Over the years I have bought many bottles from Century before the Wegmans purchase and never been disappointed.
