  • MJP Hou TX Likes this wine: 95 points

March 21, 2022 - Impression after 24 hrs of slow ox in the bottle.

This wine is sultry at this stage of development. Blueberry cobbler on the nose, plush and silky on the palate. Smooth with a long wave of flavors that coat the tongue and last for what feels like 30 seconds. Loved it best at cellar temp with a slight chill. A little heat at room temp.

    95+

3/22/22, 4:45 AM - I did DQ! We brought one to Sedona last week and it was beautiful… only issue was there was nothing left for day two and I bet it would have been even better. What an amazing lineup across the board for TR. Any idea if wine was made from Paso in 2020?

3/22/22, 2:27 PM - MJP - Thx for the great review. Given all of the recent publicity (and trying a bottle of '19 Plum Orchard last night...just fabulous) I just ran by Wades wines and picked up a mixed case of 2019 Claude's, Plum Orchard, and Willow's. Not sure what their shipping policy is but they still have all three available (www.wadeswines.com) if anyone is looking for more :).

BTW - I don't know of any Paso winery that is not producing a 2020 vintage. Although there was smoke across California the fires were well away from Paso and did not directly affect the wineries there

3/22/22, 7:19 PM - Thanks T.O.! I just picked up a few more Claude's Cuvee from Hi-Time Cellars. Btw, Plum Orchard with extended ox is over the moon good. Extend like a few days of slow ox in the bottle after a double decant. Just silky full body goodness in the glass.

3/24/22, 3:38 AM - MJP—so glad you tried Willow’s and enjoyed. So many of these wines are great on day 2, which makes me think they will be even better in a few years. It has been hard not to drink them. I haven’t heard Paso producers saying they won’t do 2020, but I think 2019 was just spectacular for them. I will buy to support but expectations are low.

3/24/22, 5:37 AM - DQ, I've liked it so much I've been buying up more bottles on the retail side as Claudia has told me they're completely sold out of wine. I think you're right this are going to just keep getting better with bottle age.

Thanks for the feedback on 2020.

3/26/22, 5:56 AM - MJP did you see the WA scores posted yesterday? All deservedly great, but I was surprised that the highest score was the Westerberg Red. Maybe because we drank it at altitude, but I didn’t find the complexity there that the other TR’s have. I will have to try again!!

3/26/22, 6:48 AM - DQ, maybe Erin Brooks w/RP has a love for Zin dominate blends? I don't recall but does this specific bottle have the longest lived drinking window? These wines in my opinion are not classically driven.

3/27/22, 6:02 AM - Perhaps it is the unusual blend? I can’t remember the drinking window but it was ready now (albeit primary). Just interesting.
