April 9, 2022 - Decanted 3hrs & back into btl 1hr prior to dinner in Riedel BDXs. The air we gave this allowed it to resolve nicely w/ excellent aromatics while lending an elegant mouthfeel. Semi opaque ruby garnet. Plenty of scorched earth, black currants, cherry, dark chocolate & hint of cigar. The nose is more compelling than the palate. The palate could use a tad more energy & acidity. 1/2 a shot glass of sediment in btl upon decant. 12,5% alc. The first of my 4. I'll likely try one every 3yrs. Very good, not sure it will ever be great! 92+ / 93 -

8/28/22, 6:58 AM - Great to hear from you bsinclair! Thanks for sharing your experience w/ the '06 Haut Bailly. I see you have a nice range of aged Leoville Barton. I own some LBs and wish I had bought more earlier :).

8/28/22, 10:57 AM - I have a feeling that LB remains a great value year in year out. And still relatively affordable.

8/28/22, 12:06 PM - Absolutely! Love it but in needs about 20yrs to arrive.

8/28/22, 12:09 PM - If you don't mind sacrificing one early, the '16 LB is drinking beautifully right now (especially if you like Cali type fruit). Just give it a 3-4 hour decant.

8/28/22, 1:59 PM - Thanks Mark1npt! The 16 LB actually sounds delicious & might present a "best of both worlds", tweener vs just BDX or just CA? I don't own any '16 but I'll try to grab a few if the cost looks right. Just turned 67 so 2016 BDX usually isn't on my buy list but the LB could be fun.

8/29/22, 9:48 AM - Thanks again, my online retailer who offers a lot of BDX is checking availability.

8/29/22, 11:50 AM - I've seen some lots of 6 bottles coming up in auctions lately starting at around $110/bottle. Don't know if retailers have any to sell. I think this one was bought up on release as it was WS #1 on their list I think?

  • chablis28 commented:

8/29/22, 2:50 PM - No guarantees but my online guy is good at sourcing BDX years after release. I also think a fair number of chateaus do further releases down the road. My online retailer, Envoyer, is pretty savvy at finding stuff.

8/29/22, 3:04 PM - Glad you have a good source to fall back on....of course the later releases will occur but always at higher prices. Cheers!
