June 27, 2022 - Dark blackish purple in color with an aromatic nose highlighted by black and blue fruits, vegetal qualities, menthol, peppery spices, some animal characteristics and rubber. The palate is well structured, moderate intensity, towards the upper end of medium-bodied, relatively well balanced with lots going on and very flavorful. This flagship Shiraz from this producer is intensely fruit forward with dark blue and black berries, black currants, and plum, complimented by moderate oak treatments which is not very pronounced in the overall scheme of things. Secondary notes of savory greenish vegetal herbs (and lots of it, perhaps best descriptor would be somewhere between tomato leaves and fresh green peppers), menthol, black pepper, wet forest floor, damp earth and a flash of wet mineral towards the moderate finish. A truly lovely wine that is drinking well at 10 years, but I reckon that this bad boy should continue to drink well for at least another 4 - 5 years easily. This 2012 vintage seems to be quite different stylistically which is evident in terms of its flavor profile from the 2006 version that I had it back in 2014. Nonetheless, they’re both good in their own unique ways.
