Community Tasting Note

August 22, 2022 - Doing a 2nd bottle as I picked up more from our local Costco yesterday and this bottle, while still good, drinks a little differently than our previous bottle. Taking one point off overall.....only because this bottle tasted younger and not as integrated nor velour like smooth as our last bottle. I suspect the last bottle drank older than this one. Which was very, very good. This one is very good+. So some bottle variation in these, it appears. One more left to try, which way will it drink? We'll see over the next few weeks.

8/23/22, 10:20 AM - FB, we recently have discovered our local store must have a new buyer or manager because we are getting wines in that we've never had including some back vintages. I've had 2 bottles of this Krug in the past 10 days and both were extremely good (95-96) for the $98 price point.

I just laugh every time I walk by a restaurant window over on the other coast, with really nice expensive bottles sitting in direct sunlight for what I'm sure is months at a time.....if I ever saw a server pull one out of the window for me, I think I'd completely freak out on them!

It's no surprise that you old retirees would buy your wines from Costco ;)
my parents do the same in south jersey - two buck chuck, I believe it is called

I hope our Costco keeps up the new buying practice and keeps sourcing some older vintages of things to bring into this store. First time in 25 years I've seen them do it here, but every time I travel around other parts of the country and check in at Costcos in that region, they always without fail, seem to have stuff like this. I see it out in TX frequently when visiting Agelvis. I almost always buy bottles in HOU and Austin when I'm there and often bought them in SF and OAK at Costcos there, but I'm trying really hard to avoid that area now and fly through Sacramento instead.......will need to check out the Costco in Sacramento next time I go to Napa......

8/23/22, 3:30 PM - Actually, I’m quite jealous. Backwards Pennsylvania allows no wine sales at Costco. I have picked up some beauties in San Diego in the past
Still, the image of you pushing that great big cart through Costco, with a 40 pack of toilet paper and wine….
That said, the prime beef at Costco is the best

8/23/22, 3:44 PM - Yeah, those 'State Stores' are no good at all......when will that antiquated state get into the 21st Century?

8/24/22, 3:20 AM - Come on FB, everyone knows that Two Buck Chuck comes from Trader Joe’s! Costco is the largest wine buyer in NA so they get some amazing stuff but you have to know what you are looking for. (You probably figured that out in SD!). Trader Joe’s, not so much.

8/24/22, 11:52 AM - Ah, and that's why America is known by us Yanks overseas as the Land of the Big PX! Now, a Costco subsidiary does exist over here in England but they stock only two California wines at present - a basic Kendall Jackson and a bog standard Kirkland ... Ugh. Shudder. Lucky you guys. But then again, we get first dibs on the best Bordeaux :-)

8/24/22, 11:58 AM - Yes, you do, SW! You would have really loved the first bottle, it drank about 5 years older than this 2nd one and was so smooth.....I probably should have given it a 97, is was so good, but I stopped at 96.

8/24/22, 12:21 PM - SW some of the Kirkland’s aren’t too bad, worth checking out for a daily drinker

8/24/22, 12:56 PM - True DQ, but even their best $20 offering will pale into insignificance compared to your Costco offerings there or our equivalent Bdx here. Cheers.

8/24/22, 1:27 PM - I would imagine some of the Kirkland bottlings would be the same for all markets. We had a nice Kirkland Chablis for example. So if you see a Kirkland Stag’s leap cab it would probably be decent enough for the price. We also have a pretty good although inconsistent Bordeaux and Chamoagnr selection in our Costco here in ATL.
