Introduction

This was an event put on by Gentiles, a Columbus wine store, in collaboration with the regional distributor for St. Cosme.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

Red
N.V. Saint Cosme Little James' Basket Press France, Rhône, Vin de France
84 points
Simple, gamy Grenache nose. A bit lean to me, like there may be a significant amount of '02 in the blend. Dominant tannins on the finish. Quality wine at the price.
Red
2003 Saint Cosme Côtes du Rhône France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
50 points
Unfiltered and unfined, which perhaps the winemaker ought to rethink in light of the secondary fermentation evident here. Yeasty, like bad sweat socks or stale beer. Tasted from three bottles with similar results. Absolutely disgusting.
Red
2003 Saint Cosme Côtes du Rhône Les Deux Albion France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
85 points
Ripe and simple, but pleasant. Abundant wood tannins eclipse the fruit to some extent.
Red
2003 Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
88 points
Rustic, dark red liqueur. Dominant Grenache notes, wood comes through in the find tannin. Good balance with potential to improve with age.
Red
2003 Saint Cosme Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
89 points
Good density of ripe fruit. Some less characteristic minty notes framed by chewy wood tannin. Not lacking in character.
