New York, NY

Introduction

I had a fantastic lunch with Steve G. at Momofuku Ko. I'm still a little buzzed, in fact. ;) Interesting food, good wine, great friend.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

White - Sparkling
1980 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne
While 1980 is not known to be a great vintage for Champagne, the real "problem" with this wine was that it was past its prime. Burnished gold rose color, sherry and yeasty notes on the nose, a modicum of tiny beads and good acid, actually. This is drinkable and even enjoyable, but drink up right away.
White
2005 Arcadian Chardonnay Sleepy Hollow Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
Good mouthfeel, creamy and low acid. Lots of fruit and a little sweetness. Really enjoyable despite a slightly short finish. Ok+
Red
2005 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
From 375ml - Easy to drink. Smooth, balanced, dark, bright fruits. Good by itself, excellent with food. The finish should be a bit longer. Nice.
Red
2005 Kutch Pinot Noir Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
The best way to describe this nose is "wow". Barely translucent. Cherries, pepper and spice on the palate. It has matured since I last had it in May 2009. Delightful now. Good with food and on its own. Really enjoyable now. Pop and pour.
