Introduction
Thanks to Brent and Chris for making this another great evening in the distant and lonely queens :) we ordered from the local uzbeki shishkobab place and once again werent dissapointed... who knew? :) :)
Flight 1 (1 note)
we actually started with a "Baltica #8 Wheat Beer" ... i love the stuff - clean and light... YUM
the food was a bit late so we went for a...
Flight 2 (3 notes)
lamb kebobs and samsa....
Red
2002 Umberto Cesari Liano
Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Rubicone
WOW....if they can do this well in 2002! the WS rated the '01 85 points...how? i didt taste the '01 but.... in any case. this was a shape-shifter all night. it started off with a bright young fruit nose and rustic palatte of sangiovese....that slowly became a jammy black currant and then back to sangiovese with sry cherry and rustic notes... on the pallate this was a refreshing medium bodied wine that could use/develop some middle but even as is was so much fun...excellent especially if it comes in under $30
Red
2002 Finca Sandoval Manchuela
Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, Manchuela
lovely modern spanish wine. lots of blackberries and balanced but present oak. almoust rhone like on the nose - it seems the excessive fruit has faded away. this is well balanced and improved a lot as the night wnet along. YUMMY wine that i would love to have again. the only minus is that it has little spanish character...
Red
2004 Clos Roche Blanche Touraine Cabernet
France, Loire Valley, Touraine
can you spot a Lyle wine 100 feet away :) i can! i loved this btw...low on green pepper - in fact it wasnt there at all, high on happy fruit and great acidity to boot. we'll see what it does tomorrow but this is truly delish now... when is '05 coming? :)
Flight 3 (1 note)
instead of dessert we had to look at Brents pics froim Italy...that will teach me to never forget to order dessert :) kidding..actually time passed too quickly!
White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Umberto Cesari Albana di Romagna Colle del Re Dolce
Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Albana di Romagna DOCG
this is a Passito wine, and as many italian dessert wine, this is a true finish to the dinner. its not overly sweet or thick, but rather laid back and relaxing...ripe fruit mixed with botrytis are the main profile...sipping this and chatting...what could be better? ??
Flight 4 (0 notes)
after the wines we decided to tackle some vintage beer...
a 1986 Samichkans Bier - nice but seemingly past its prime... cool notes of bitter chocolate.. a bit too much for me
and a `87 Hardy's..this is a second bottle for me (both from Brent - thx big guy) and again a revelation...like old PX but of course more or less dry... yummy stuff and an excellent finish to the dinner...
Closing
thanks again guys - lets repeat it soon
