Introduction

Wines consumed at East Lake. Excellent food and Syrah Ed joined us for one night.

Flight 1 (7 notes)

White
2008 Cooper Mountain Vineyards Pinot Gris Reserve USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Good, solid mineral and subtle ripe peach aroma. Mineral dominates the flavor but it has a slight lingering chalk quality that isn't offensive but seems out of place. Crisp, light, very good with food.
White
2008 The Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Blanc USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills

Always good. Mineral and light pear. Dry and crisp with medium weight. Excellent at the table.
Red
2006 Panther Creek Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Happy to see this arrive at the table since I own it. Not as complex as expected. Instead dominant dark fruit and toasty oak driven showing sparse pinot nuance. Forward, rich, mouth filling then flat. Also expected a bit more structure although it's typical of the vintage. Good, enjoyable wine. Now or wait short term.

2007 Panther Creek Pinot Noir Verde Vineyards USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Pretty low/medium intensity aroma of sweet orange tea and caramelized sugars. Same flavors with building caramelized sugars. While the fruit isn't strong it is complex, very enjoyable and persists until the last drop. Medium/light in the mouth with a slight dip in the middle but it gains momentum and finishes round and surprisingly long. I like this. It brings back good memories of the '80 vintage - nothing exceptional but beautiful fruit, elegant, complete and delicious at the table. Now.
Red
2006 Bogle Vineyards Phantom USA, California

Petite Sirah, Zin, Mourvedre. Very nice aroma of baked plum, dark fruits with a subtle herbal complexity. Same flavors with chocolate and slight american oak dill after time. Round, soft and sweet in the mouth with good warm climate balance and feel. Reminds me of complex, old style field blend Zin. Overall, enjoyable, well done, very drinkable.

Red
2008 Columbia Crest H3 Les Chevaux USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Horse Heaven Hills
Bdx blend from Horse Heaven. There is some good fruit here but I have a difficult time with the strong artificial chocolate/vanilla milkshake flavors and aroma. Second day interesting fruit was much more forward but this still doesn't work for my table. Overall, clean, well made, not my style.
Red
2003 Rocca di Montegrossi Chianti Classico Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Excellent. Abundant tar and old leather. Soft, ready, bright. Still needs 30 minutes to open. Much better on the palate compared to last bottle. Now. Lovely.
