The last and best half-bottle of the four that I bought. This had to be one of the very best Moscato d'Astis on the shelf - it was as always a clear level up on terms of complexity and intellectual appeal then your run-of-the-mill college quaffers. Lovely nose showed typical Moscato scents of white flowers, peach, nectarines - beautifully fragrant, but quite without some of the sickly soapiness that you sometimes get with other producers. The same flavour profile is taken on on the palate, where it fans out beautifully with a little fizz and a solid little touch of minerality. Again, lots of sweet perfumy fragrance in the mouth, but all nicely fresh and balance. Lovely stuff.

A solid Chard. This needed some time to breathe, with whiffs of sulphur on the nose at first. However, as it opened up, it started showing classy oak notes, cream, mushroom scents, damp earth, yellow fruit and a little grass and white flowers. Very Burgundian. Some posters have said Meursault, others Chablis (quite a gap there!), but this could well have been a Puligny to me on the nose. On the palate, the acid was a little aggressive at first, leaving a sense of disjointedness. However, with time, the wine knitted together to show a nice expressions of fleshy fruit - lemons and pears - and a solid core of minerality. Very nice balanced and focused. There was a cool-climate restraint here that gives more than a nod towards the old world. A little toastiness at the end to reminded one of the oak before the wine slid away with a little more minerality. Good stuff, should get even better with a few more years. If serving now, I would suggest a quick, splashy decant.
