Flight 1 (8 notes)

Red
2006 Domaine Joseph Roty Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Reserved nose of baked cherry pie, soil, mint. Huge acid and tannin covering up dark cherry, and feral notes. Needs time. Good+.
Red
2000 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
Stinky at first, with horse hide notes that blow off revealing jammy strawberry on the nose. Very ripe strawberry, cranberry, bretty notes. Nice weight. Plump and plush, with medium acidity. Improved drastically over the 2-3 hours it was open.
Red
2003 La Pousse d'Or Corton-Bressandes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Burnt orange at the rim. Superripe black cherry, chocolate, spicy oak nose with almost a saline quality. Open for business, with sweet, ripe black cherry, floral, red apple, spicy oak notes. Long finish. Very tasty. (my #4, group #2)
Red
2006 Domaine Louis Boillot et Fils Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Chapelle France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
High toned, lifted red cherry, floral nose. Immediately coats the mouth on the attack with lovely, sticky viscosity/texture but yet somehow retains a sense of weightlessness. Strawberry, cherry, and rose petal flavors are framed by gentle tannins and chased by vibrant acidity. Very feminine, pretty, great poise and balance. (my #1, group #3 - tie)
Red
2006 Louis Latour Aloxe-Corton France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton
The earthiest wine of the flight, with dry soil, peat, and strawberry notes on the nose that are repeated on the palate. Huge acidity and big tannin lead to a drying, astringent finish. Needs time to unwind and resolve itself.
Red
2008 Domaine Camus-Bruchon & Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
High-toned, lifted aromas of bubble gum, red fruit and whole cluster spice. Open, forward on the palate with generous red cherry, raspberry, and cinammon notes with spicy oak on the finish. Big acidity and medium-plus tannin. Very good. Screaming value. (my #2, group #1)
Red
2008 Régis Bouvier Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Darkest wine of the flight, gorgeous deep garnet. Dark cherry and wild berry on the nose. Intense black cherry, santa rosa plum, black raspberry, penny royal tea flavors are very linear but well defined. Still very tight. Very good. (my #3, group #3 - tie)
Red
2002 Domaine Anne Gros Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Stinky horse blanket aromas blew off after about an hour of aeration, revealing high toned, mentholated cherry. Sappy and tart, with dark cherry, dark berry, and floral notes and unyielding green tannin on the finish. Hard as nails.
