Roanne, France

Introduction

My first meal ever at Troisgros (dinner), with my second meal (lunch tomorrow) due to start about 16 hours after the first. Or more meaningfully, less than 11 hours after this first meal ended.

Flight 1 - White (2 notes)

White
1999 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
flawed
Slightly corked.

Took a while to show but very impressive. Citrus on the nose and finish, with good stone fruit in the middle. Some interesting spicy flavors towards the end as well, seeming to show some licorice character. Very powerful finish.

Flight 2 - Red (2 notes)

Red
1993 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Started with simple red and black fruit on the nose and just wisps of spice. Fruit also seemed a little muted on the palate. At first, the muted fruit gave us some concern with this bottle regarding cork, but that started going away as this wine ever-so-slowly opened up. At about two hours it was showing spice and perfume on the nose and an excellent combination of red and black cherry on the palate. Really nice spice also came through on finish, with was showing mostly black fruit by the final glass.

Glorious spice and flowers on the nose with mostly black fruit. Red fruit combined with black on the palate, which also showed massive spice from start to finish. Long and elegant on the finish. Gorgeous right out the gate, compared with the Leroy 93 Beaux Monts in the next glass, which needed to be coaxed and prodded into showing her charms.
