Introduction

This was a working meeting, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't drink some good wine.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

Red
2007 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
92 points
Very dark red color. Pop and pour at the restaurant. Nose is warm with cinnamon, subtle earth, sweet cherry fruit, cedar. The palate was concentrated, but elegant, with tart cherry, round tannins, earth, cedar, and and a long finish. I was pretty pleased with how open this was, past experience has found that the Shea bottlings usually require significant decanting. This was outstanding 92+pts.
White
2005 Kistler Chardonnay Hirsch Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
flawed
Flawed bottle, not recognizable as a chard, let alone Kistler. Disappointing.
White
2008 Gaja Langhe Rossj Bass Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
91 points
Light gold color. 90% Chard with 10% Sauv Blanc. The nose is quite fragrant, perfumed with apple, lychee, lemon, tangerine, and hints of tropicals along with fairly subtle oak. The fruit porfile on the nose was quite amazing. The palate was lithe and crisp, consistent fruits and medium-light bodied with clean medium finish. Very interesting and fun wine. Nice Italian chard. 91+pts.
Red
2005 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District
93 points
Dark purple color. Nose is rich and lush with blackberry, blackberry liqueur, cassis, vanilla, spice, and scorched earth. The palate is deeply concentrated with silky well integrated tannins, lush black fruits, tar, lots of glyverin, and spice on the long finish. This was stellar, a big wine with a lot of finesse. This was a pop and pour, drank over 2 hours. 93-94pts.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 King Estate Pinot Gris Vin Glacé USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
89 points
Medium gold color. Nose has candied apples and apricots, florals. Moderate acid, not overly sweet, good balance. Solid.

Closing

Everything was outstanding tonight, but the WOTN was the '05 Shafer One Point Five.
