Flight 1 (5 notes)

Red
2002 Nicholas Cole Cellars Camille USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
89 points
This one was not bad, but it was a little more than I would pay for it. The nose had lots of nice raspberry, and plum fruit. It also had a bit of pepper and vanilla. It was really smooth in the mouth, with a good mix of raspberry, pepper, and oak. The tannins were really firm and it had a long finish.
White
2004 Chateau Ste. Michelle Chardonnay Canoe Ridge Estate Vineyard USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Horse Heaven Hills
88 points
This was a lot less oaky than other New World Chardonnays I have had. It had a beautiful golden color. The nose had quite a bit of toasty oak up front. Underneath was some pear and apple, with just a touch of butter. The palate had very balanced mix of pear, apple, and buttery oak. The acidity was just right, and it had a long finish.
Red
2004 King Estate Pinot Noir Signature Collection USA, Oregon
86 points
This Pinot was a liitle better than the other one in the tasting. It had lots of cherry, and earth on the nose. This was followed by notes of strawberry and vanilla. The palate was fairly smooth, with some cherry mixed with spice and oak. The only bad thing was that these were out of balance. The tannins were soft, and it finished good.
Red
2002 Gordon Estate Syrah USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
85 points
This Syrah was as disappointing as the Pinots in this tasting. It started off good with a very aromatic nose of raspberry, plum, pepper, and vanilla. The palate was horrible. It was dominated by bitter tannins that covered up the pepper, raspberry, and oak. It was drinkable, but I couldn't recommend it.
Red
2004 Van Duzer Pinot Noir Estate USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
85 points
This Pinot was very disappointing. The nose was pretty nice. It had some cherrry and strawberry, mixed with a bit of vanilla and forest floor. The palate, on the other hand, was full of bitter cherry that overwhelmed everything else. On top of that, it didn't have that silky mouthfeel that you would expect. It was drinkable, but that was about all I can say.
