2010 Jean Farris Winery Sauvignon Blanc USA, California

Kentucky winery uses California fruit in this Sauvignon Blanc; vinified at winery in Kentucky. Tropical nose, fresh lemon-lime citrus, melon, distant green apple skin. Not quite as fresh on the palate, weaker acidity for a Sauvignon Blanc, basic citrus, melon, tropical notes.

Flight 2 (1 note)

2008 Jean Farris Winery Petite Sirah USA, Kentucky

Decanted. Expressive nose of dark fruit, sweet plum, and melted black licorice that brings a faint acetone note thanks to how the alcohol is integrated at this point. Quite similar to the 2007, though clearly tighter and with a more modern oak treatment. There's nice balance, a mid-weight frame, with woodspice accenting the sweet-tart plum and blackberry. A bit better than the 2007. 90+
