Flight 1 (6 notes)

Red
2008 Scott Paul Cellars Pinot Noir La Paulée USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Tasted blind, from screwcap. Nose was closed at first, eventually opened up to reveal wild berry, clove, and a hint of vanilla. Medium bodied and tight, leads with clean, tart cherry fruit, strawberry, and spice, finishes with fine tannin and mineral. This really gained depth and sweetness over the course of the night. A lot of stuffing for 13% ABV. Needs air. My #1, group #3 WOTN.
Red
2008 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Premier Cuvée USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Tasted blind. Red fruit, forest floor, orange rind, funky oak on the nose. Bold, rich, with gobs of dark fruit, savory elements, and plenty of oak on the finish. If this hadn't been tasted in a flight of Oregon wines, I would have guessed CA pinot.
Red
2008 Anne Amie Pinot Noir USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Tasted blind. Bright, lifted nose of red cherry, wild berry, and spice. Flavors veer towards dark on the palate. Tight and reserved, with black cherry, wild raspberry, and toasty vanilla notes that finish with noticeable tannin and good acidity. Could use a couple years.
Red
2008 Brittan Vineyards Pinot Noir Basalt Block USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, McMinnville
Tasted blind. Aromatically reserved, with hints of savory, woodsy elements. Briary, wild berry fruit, citrus peel, and vanilla on the palate. Still very tight with good acidity, and plenty of tannin on the finish. Needs time, this will be really good in a few years. Enjoyed it. My #3, Group NR WOTN.
Red
2008 Roots Wine Co. Pinot Noir Leroy Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains
Tasted blind. High toned, cinnamon, red fruit, funk on the nose. The spice notes and red fruit carry over to the tightly wound, tannic palate, with a dash of vanilla oak. Needs time. My NR, Group #2 WOTN.
Red
2008 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Yamhill Cuvée USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Tasted blind. Dark fruit, plum, and toasty oak on the nose. Full bodied and intense, with dark, berry fruit, dark cherry, and loamy earth notes on the palate, finishes with toasty oak and dusty tannin. Still very tight. Very nice wine, but would have guessed CA PN if I weren't tasting a flight of Oregon. My #2, Group #1 WOTN.
