Flight 1 (5 notes)
White
2008 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot
Tiny touch of sulphur at first but basically an extremely clean, pure, wine. Nice balance of fruit and floral components on nose and palate. but a little soft and lacking spine for me. Hopefully with more age increased complexity will make up for this.

2007 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus
Absolutely delightful, just what you want in very young burgundy - mineral, elegant, very transparent fruit but with lovely acid too. As far at the other end of the spectrum from the 07 L-Belair Clos Vougeot drunk at the same time as one could possibly be. I loved this.

2006 Domaine Jean Chauvenet Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains
Traditional, lovely bright acidity, somewhat rustic fruit. Some iron and dirt there, but basically a young wine that is past it's most youthful phase. Not fully closed either, and quite energetic with it's acidity. Will be something more interesting in 10 years, though.

2007 Thibault Liger-Belair Clos Vougeot
Very international nose, masses of vanilla oak. Smooth, glossy, well textured wine, quite tannic (far more than I've had in any other 07) but showing lots of primary fruit. High quality wine making, but a very modern style in a quite obvious way.
Red
1993 Domaine Robert Jayer-Gilles Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes
Very concentrated, dark colour, characteristic but slightly chunky. excellent structure still, acid, tannin and fruit all there. Perhaps a little bit of oak toast hiding in the finish. Quality wine but not elegant. Ready to drink.
