Introduction

Great dinner by the hostess! Braised short ribs and pear pie were to die for and we had great wines to go with the fantastic food

Flight 1 - Wines of the evening (5 notes)

I'm not sure how to keep the wines from the event together without creating a flight. I'm probably not using this system correctly.

White - Off-dry
2001 Carl Schmitt-Wagner Longuicher Maximiner Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
92 points
Rich aroma of grapefruit, peach and apricots balanced out by mineraly notes of flint.
White - Sparkling
1989 Pommery Champagne Cuvée Louise Brut France, Champagne
94 points
Poured from a magnum. Wonderful aromas of toasted hazelnuts and yeast. Bright and yet very rich on the palette.
White
2002 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Chardonnay Arthur USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
93 points
Great aromas of flint, grapefruit, pineapples. Rich and balanced
White
2003 Alban Vineyards Viognier USA, California, Central Coast
93 points
This wine has matured wonderfully. Drank this a couple of years ago and it was completely over the top with fruit. But, the wine was drinking wonderfully last night. Still very rich with aromas of dried apricots and lilies. But the wine is now more balanced with a palette of minerals, white peaches and a long finish. Got a hint of petrol on the palette.
Red
2002 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
92 points
Sweet aromas of Black cherries, cardammom and blueberries balanced by dustiness and moss. Loved the layered aromas of this wine. Very close to the premier wines of northern burgandy.
