2007
2006
2005
2004
1996
1991

A four course dinner was also served, with the following “bonus” wines:

Louise Roederer Brut Premier NV
Guigal, Condrieu “La Doriane” 2010
Guigal, Saint Joseph “Vignes de L’Hospice” 2008
Guigal, Saint Joseph “Vignes de L’Hospice” 2009

Flight 1 (12 notes)

Red
2008 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
93 points
Nose: Sweet red cherries, some smoke, gunpowder, oak and burned wood, some stones and minerals.
Young and undeveloped, with wood being very evident.
Palate: Soft tannins, minerals and with high acidity.
Long, medium finish, with acid, dry fruit and rather soft tannins.
A bit on the light side, but much, much better than expected after reading reviews.
Will develop, and the acidity being high, in combination with young fruit gives this wine a very good potential to be really great further down the road.
93 + for now.
Red
2007 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
98 points
Nose: Great, big nose, with tar, smoked bacon/ham, some notes of smoke/wood, good, deep lovely fruit. Very complex with huge potential and very apparent origin showing.
Palate: Somewhat sour cherries and cranberries, great acidity, super clean and exceptional balance, with transparence and great minerals!
Exceptional long finish, that lingers in waves of fruit and acidity, and a mineral streak in the middle for the seamless perfection, that lasts for over a minute!
This is a big wine, with huge development potential, but a treat already now.
Will probably go into history as one of the best La Turques made!
98+ now, might reach 100!
Red
2006 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
96 points
Nose: Herbs/Herbal some green tea, smoked meet, mortardella, Syrah and loads of cherries on the nose.
Deep and complex, lovely nose in this glas.
Palate: Generous, long, grape typical, has some oak still not fully integrated (but not disturbing), grat cherries and fresh minerals and stones.
This is still exceptionally young, with great ageing potential.
Reminds me a little bit of some Bourgogne wines from the same vintage.
This will be great!
96 - 97
Red
2005 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
99 points
Nose: Deep, complex and expensive. Signs of maturity showing.
Mature fruit and some pepper, with wet leaves, earth and smoked meat.
Some iron notes too.
Palate: Full, round, deep and soft.
Mature cherries and red fruit.
Lovely fruit with great transparency and mature fruit, impeccable balance.
A great vintage that is lovely already.
One of tonight’s top 3 wines!
Red
2004 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
93 points
Nose: Green! Very green, reminds me very much of most of the 2004 Bourgogne’s I've had.
A bit hot, with alcohol/acetone on the nose.
Secondary aromas lurking beneath with some wet forest floor, earth, faint smoke and more of the herbal green tones
Palate: Green, some acid, white pepper, quite long but rather light finish.
Not a top vintage of this wine.
Red
1996 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
96 points
Nose: Great, marvelous and beautiful mature nose on this wine!
Stable and dung, wet horse and wet rotten leaves.
Very mature with some secondary aromas of coffee and espresso.
Palate: Very long! Mature, stones and minerals/gravel, good acidity (maybe a bit too much acid for that perfect balance?) , fantastic fruit!
This is a beauty!

2003 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
97 points
Wow!
Talk about huge wine!
This is so fully packed with everything!
Very new world to begin with.
A no brainer that this either comes from a real hot place or an extremely hot vintage.
Nose: Huge nose full off expensive warm fruit, smoke, pepper, mint, herbs.
Extremely new world.
Palate: Hot/Alcohol, tannins, massive, fruit x 2, all over the place!
Fun wine, huge, almost vulgar, but this has just begun it’s long, long life!
This will be great when it settles.
Fun to drink now, but very different from the other seven La Turques drunk tonight!
Great potential!

1991 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
100 points
Tonight’s wine of the night!
Eight vintages of La Turque has been drunk tonight, and this was the winner, to me and to the majority of the others.
Actually, this is the best Syrah wine I’ve had the pleasure to drink up till today.
This wine is magic.
Fantastic!
Can’t be described in words really, as perfection needs to be personally experienced.
Nose: Mature, under vegetation, damp forest floor, mushrooms some stable.
Palate: Perfect, impeccable balance, a master piece!
So long and so complex, so in balance and harmony.
Indescribable.
A liquid Picasso!

White - Sparkling
N.V. Louis Roederer Champagne Brut Premier France, Champagne
89 points
A very good NV Champagne.
One of my favorites in this price range
Red
2008 E. Guigal St. Joseph Vignes de L'Hospice France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph
93 points
Great stuff!
Best Saint Joseph I’ve had.
Nose : Full of white pepper and some animal tones.
Palate: Soft, well integrated tannins, long and full, with good acidity!
Great stuff!
White
2010 E. Guigal Condrieu La Doriane France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Condrieu
94 points
Great Condrieu from the emperor of northern Rhône!
Nose: Flowers, loads of them, like a summer field filled of flowers, some butter notes, some smoke and minerals, dusty.
Palate: A hint of bitterness from the barrels (no worries!), oily, fresh and clean beautiful Viogner fruit, minerals and terroir.
A master piece and a great wine for the buck!

2009 E. Guigal St. Joseph Vignes de L'Hospice France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph
93 points
Great stuff!
Best Saint Joseph I’ve had.
Even better than the 2008 (at this point anyway).
Nose : Very powerful and fully packed. Filled with typical Syrah characteristics.
Smoke, tar, white pepper, animal/smoke and meat.
Palate: Such a power house! Powerful deep dark fruit.
This is a huge wine!
Long and deep taste, almost heavy, with sweet but clean fruit.
As big as it is, still in balance.
After having booth the 2008 and this, 2009, tonight it hits me how much the difference in vintages reassembles Bourgogne from the same years.
This is like a powerful 2009 Bourgogne wine.
Only difference is that this is more allowed to be this fruit filled and powerful.
Fabulous qpr!
A definite buy!
