Flight 1 (4 notes)

White
2011 Charles Smith Riesling Kung Fu Girl USA, Washington
86 points
Green Bartlett pear, apple, tart acidity on the end. Finish is a bit short and abrupt, but a good bottle of wine, and certainly great for $12. I can see this being a bit more fun to drink in the summer with a good seafood dish.
Red
2009 Failla Pinot Noir Keefer Ranch USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
93 points
Decanted for 8+ hours.

Kirsch, root beer, cream, some mild funk, hint of greens, earth tones. Smooth, but could use a bit more acidity to me. A really good bottle of wine, and nice example of Pinot.
White
2009 Château Boswell Chardonnay Dutton Ranch Sebastopol Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
92 points
Started around 45F, and followed over 6 hours.

Early on I caught pineapple, vanilla, truffle, and as this warmed up it's shown other flavors. One of the guests commented "Funkenbutter" :) A buttery nuttiness to it as it warms, almond, hazelnut? Does have an earthy funk to it...very nice.

Really enjoyed this...a very nice bottle that has plenty of life left, but drinking well now.
Red
2007 Domaine Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
92 points
Decanted for 8+ hours.

Very Châteauneufy to me...Cherry, plums, rosemary, garrigue, pepper, tobacco, cassis, and more...a bit of bitter aftertaste on it to me though...almost reminds me of tree bark or something.

Getting toward mature I think, but it definitely improves with a long decant. Keep it in the cellar a bit longer or throw it in a decanter for a while before drinking.
