Flight 1 (9 notes)

White - Sparkling
2007 Giuseppe Contratto For England Blanc de Noirs Pas Dosé Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Alta Langa
86 points
Very chalky nose. Firm, dry body with lots of fine CO2, and some roundness. Big acids on the finish with bright lemon and tart green apple.
Rosé - Sparkling
2007 Giuseppe Contratto For England Rosé Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Alta Langa
86 points
Chalk mixed with dried strawberries on the nose. A bit more fruit on the entry, with med+ length. Lighter acids than the Pas Dose, but still a touch bitter on the finish.
White
2011 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Vermentino Casanova della Spinetta Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
88 points
Big nose, pretty and fragrant. Melon and lots of white peach. Rich, round body--very soft and elegant, with good acidity. But, I found it a bit too light on the mid-palate, and it didn't stand up to the nose.
White
2011 Indigenous Selections gri/gio Italy, Delle Venezie
90 points
Interesting nose of crushed flowers and chalk. Luscious mouthfeel; nice roundness and elegance. Lengthy finish with good weight and balanced acids. Overall a nice QPR.
Red
2010 Indigenous Selections san/gio Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
91 points
Ripe, red cherry nose--smells like Jolly Ranchers (in a good way)--gives way to more ripe red fruit on the body. Soft but present fine tannins frame the medium length finish. Nicely balanced with good acidity. Great QPR.
Red
2009 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Barbera d'Asti Cà di Pian Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Barbera d'Asti
91 points
Wood spice, some savory umami, and a touch of mint on the nose. Darker fruit, elegant body. Med+ finish with light tannins and good balance.
Red
2009 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Langhe Nebbiolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
91 points
Big wood spice and smoke on the nose. Dark, brooding, with big drying tannins and a finish that goes on and on. Still, it's quite elegant at this stage. Definitely needs to be paired with food.
Red
2008 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Barolo Vigneto Garretti Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
92 points
Oak and black cherry on the nose. Elegant body with BIG drying tannins. Still tight right now, but showing good complexity and balance. Needs food (and time).
White - Sparkling
2012 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Moscato d'Asti Vigneto Biancospino Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Moscato d'Asti
Beautiful nose filled with lush tropical fruits and pineapple. Rich, viscous body with a touch of sweetness that blends nicely with the bubbles.
