Introduction

Unfortunately I was working during the Rhone tasting Tooch had earlier in the day, but thankfully he brought back a couple of bottles from domaine. So, I brought over some bubbles and blinded them for us.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

Red
1996 Noël Verset Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
94 points
nose: There is a real savory quality to this with a lot of depth and balance along with tones of black pepper, black fruits, animal hides, violets and some bacon fat.

taste: Full bodied with good tannins still persisting along with medium+ acidity. Very well balanced with a rustic take on the tones of blackc pepper, black fruits, animal hides, leather and some bacon fat.

overall: I caught this later in the day, and I am very glad I did. This was a wonderful Verset that has a long way to go.
Red
1999 Domaine de Fauterie St. Joseph Les Combaud France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph
92 points
Nose: Very flowing and classic nose filled with tones of mineral rich earth, black pepper, black fruits, dark red fruits, and a good amount of bacon fat.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium acidity and some very good tannins still. This is well balanced with good depth and silky tones of black pepper, black fruits, bacon fat, and some dark red fruits.

Overall: This is a really damn good St. Joseph. There is good depth on both the nose and palate with a polished sense to it as well. While this is showing well, it can still go a long way.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Pascal Doquet Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil-sur-Oger France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Nose: Nice and fresh nose with tones of bread, yeast, green apples, mineral tones, and some bits of almonds.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity. Well balanced with good depth and tones of yeast, green apples, mineral tones and some almonds.

Overall: This was a very nice NV BdB. Well balanced with good freshness on both the nose and palate.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Agrapart Champagne Grand Cru Terroirs Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Nose: Very fragrant with tones of white fruits, white florals, mineral tones, almonds, and pears. There is good depth to this with a very linear style to it.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity that has a sharpness to it. There is a real good focus to the tones of white fruits, pears, minerals, and almonds but the finish is clipped.

Overall: This was a lot of fun. There is a real crisp and pristine quality to it with good balance.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Mawby Blanc de Blancs USA, Michigan, Leelanau Peninsula
88 points
Nose: This has a real good fragrance to it with a real steely take to the tones of minerals, green apples, pears, and a touch of yeast. This is nice, but it is lacking some depth.

Taste: Light bodied with searing high acidity. The acidity is a bit overwhelming, but there are nice tones of minerals, green apples, pears, and some almonds.

Overall: This feels like it could've used a dosage, or at least a higher one. This is a very good BdB from Michigan and could be something to watch in the future.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Tissot (Bénédicte et Stéphane / André et Mireille) Crémant du Jura Indigène France, Jura, Crémant du Jura
90 points
Nose: There is very good depth on this with balanced tones of melons, white fruits, green apples, minerals, and floral tones.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity that is very refreshing. There is nice balance to the tones of white fruits, green apples, minerals, and some melon tones.

Overall: There is a lot to like about this. It's a great value with a real style to it.

Closing

The Champagnes showed themselves, but the Indigene was the main winner. This wasn't a bad way to cap off a busy Saturday.
