Flight 1 (13 notes)

White
2010 Château de Rayne-Vigneau Le Sec de Rayne Vigneau France, Bordeaux
87 points
Sweet smell, green apples, white currant, and goose berries.
Dry. Almost no sweetness. Good acidity on the palate and fruit in the mouth. Slight grapefruit at the end. A bit bitter. Quite ok, but not that exciting.
1/2 = ok to good.
White
2009 Caves Duplessis Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
87 points
Fairly intense nose. Slightly pungent.
Quite pleasant on the palate, mineralic, intense, not as fruity as I would have expected based on the nose.
Fully dry. Quite pleasant, but not mind blowing.
1/2 = ok to good
Red
2008 Château Rouzaud France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lussac-St. Émilion
85 points
Red fruit on the nose, medium intensity, quite rustic with something pungent. A bit alcoholic.
The palate is very light. A non-event with a weak attack and almost nothing thereafter. It is like the mid palate and after paste is almost not present.
It is pleasant enough, just completely boring. Not bad, just not exciting at all.
1 = ok
Red
2010 Domaine de la Renjarde Côtes du Rhône Villages Massif d'Uchaux France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages Massif d'Uchaux
90 points
Quite dark in the glass.
Pronounced nose with layers of forrest fruit and black currant.
Earthy on the palate. Mid to Full bodied, but slightly alcoholic. 15+ seconds after taste. Good fruit. Not very acidic.
2/3 = Good to very good
White
2011 Josef Ehmoser Riesling Vom Gelben Löss Austria, Niederösterreich, Wagram
90 points
Sweet nose with a hint of butter milk. Aromatic with flowery undertones.
Dry on the palate, quite acidic, but with a hint of sweetness to provide balance. Quite fruity.
I was surprised ho well I liked this wine.
2/3 = Good to Very Good
White
2011 Domaine des Gerbeaux Mâcon-Solutre Le Clos France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Solutre
85 points
Fresh, not that powerful nose. Slightly grassy. Hint of mint.
Relatively light on the palate. Watery, but fresh. Quite short. It is fully dry. OK wine, but not that exciting.
1 = ok
White
2010 Domaine Georges Vernay Viognier Le Pied de Samson France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes
86 points
Sweet nose of apple and pear.
Quite different on the palate. Very short, but fresh. Low acidity and very dry.
Not that exciting for me.
1 = ok
White
2011 Domaine des Forges Anjou L'Audace France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Anjou
88 points
Apple, pineapple, hint of petroleum and some honey dew melon on the nose.
Bone dry with good acidity on the palate. Quite full in the mouth. Quite long.
Good drinking.
2 = Good
Red
2008 Domaine Joliet Fixin 1er Cru Clos de la Perrière France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin 1er Cru
89 points
Quite light colour.
Medium intense on the nose. Fruit and slightly peppery.
Medium bodied. Smooth, with pleasant tannins that stand out a bit (would leave it for another couple of years to settle). After taste is medium long.
Nice drinking wine, but I suspect it may improve.
2 = good
Red
2010 Mas de Daumas Gassac France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Vin de Pays de l'Hérault
90 points
Quite dark in the glass with tears on the side. Nose with cherries and pepper.
Cherries come through on the palate. Full bodied with long after taste. Fruity and quite primary. Will improve with age, although tannins are very soft.
Very nice bottle.
2/3 = Good to Very Good
Red
2008 Clos des Cordeliers Saumur-Champigny Cuvée Prestige France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny
88 points
Medium dark clear ruby in the glass
Earthy on the nose. Pepper with a bit of barnyard (sounds worse that it is)
Medium bodied with good mid palate. Earthy with 5-10 seconds after taste. Tannins are well integrated and not particularly pronounced.
2 = Good
White
2009 Rutherglen Estates Marsanne Viognier Roussanne Shelley's Block Australia, Victoria, North East, Rutherglen
87 points
Fresh on the nose, but not very intense. Grass and slightly pungent. Water melon!
On the palate it is bone dry. Good fruit, but not very complex, it is medium full.
1/2 = OK to Good
White
2012 Berry Bros. & Rudd Berrys' Own Selection Sav Blanc Nelson New Zealand, South Island, Nelson
87 points
Green apple on the nose, cut grass, relatively intense
Palate is fully dry with good acidity, but relatively short. It dries the mouth a bit. Not overly complex.
It is an ok NZ Sauvignon Blanc (certainly at the price), but nothing special really.
1/2 = ok to good
