Flight 1 (3 notes)

White
2001 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Drachenstein Riesling Dragonstone Germany, Rheingau
My wine of the night (1/9) and much more balanced and complex than either the 04 or the 09.
White
2004 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Drachenstein Riesling Dragonstone Germany, Rheingau
Completely outclassed by the '01. The '01 was my wine of the night, and this was my least favorite.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

White
2009 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett Germany, Nahe
I preferred this to the '01 and '98, which was surprising and not necessarily the consensus at the table. Others thought this was too young and spritzy, but it showed the approachability of the '09s. My 2nd.
White
2001 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett Germany, Nahe
Still plenty of life ahead of it. My 4th of 9.
White
1998 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett Germany, Nahe
At peak or perhaps even a bit tired, though still light and elegant. My 6th of 9.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

White - Off-dry
1997 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
My 3/4/5th of the night (3-5 were a clump). This was fun to have alongside the '09; complete opposites in terms of development, but both very enjoyable.
White - Off-dry
2002 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Fairly blah. Short finish. My 7th (of 9) of the night.
White - Off-dry
2009 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Young and packed with fruit. My 3/4/5th of the night (3-5 were a clump).

Flight 4 (2 notes)

White - Off-dry
1997 Wittmann Westhofener Steingrube Albalonga Auslese Germany, Rheinhessen
Strange. Unpleasant, off-putting note but I still revisited it a few times. Like trying to turn away from a train wreck.
White - Off-dry
1998 Kerpen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese * Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Held its own but did not outshine.
