2002 Huet Demi-Secs

Tasted July 27, 2013 by rm wines with 298 views

Introduction

Tasted through all 3 of Huet's 2002 Demi-Secs. None showed signs of the dreaded premox. Among the group, Le Haut-Lieu and Clos du Bourg were the favorite, with some disagreement as to which was #1, and Le Mont was a distant third.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

White - Off-dry
2002 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Mont France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray
Of the three demi-secs, this one offered the least to enjoy today. The wine was sound, but the nose was dominated by earthy/wooly notes and the palate was just a little bit too thin and acidic to back up those flavors. Not bad, but it didn't sing like the other two.
White - Off-dry
2002 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray
Now we are talking. A fresher/sweeter nose compared to the Le Mont that we tasted, and a crispness on the palate that really carries the wine. This wine tasted young, and it should continue to develop nicely over the coming years.
White - Off-dry
2002 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Clos du Bourg France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray
The sweetest and ripest of the three demi-secs. A deep golden color with a slight hint of burnt sugar on the nose and a strong honeyed element on the palate. This wine is all about richness, and the texture reminds me more of the higher sweetness levels.
