Flight 1 (1 note)

Rosé
2012 La Porta di Vertine Rosato Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Tasted Blind.
Deep cherry color. Reminded me of saignee champagne color.
Very expressive nose with peanuts and VA. Maraschino cherry.
Full body, fruit is sweet and candy like. Watermelon, blueberry and cherry bubble gum. Probably some barrel used. Heavy and boring.
I enjoy their Chianti but this rosato is not for me...

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
2010 Domaine Philippe Tessier Cour-Cheverny Les Sables France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Cour-Cheverny
Tasted Blind.
Deeper color than the Litaud Macon, superb nose. Complex with apple, hint of honey, mineral. Very discreet wood. Fruit is very Chablis like with lemon/lime mixed with oysters. I have a yellow fruit basket with white flowers in my mind.
Super high acidity supported by great fruit on the palate and body. Long finish with spices.
I was fooled by the wine and thought it was a Chablis by Dauvissat.
White
2011 Domaine des Vieilles Pierres Mâcon-Vergisson France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Vergisson
Tasted Blind.
First whiff is interesting with green olives and apple. Palate is rich, fat. Apricot and pear notes and an unpleasant bitterness on the finish (alcohol, although this is only 13%). Seems like the acidity of the wine is just lost in the richness of the palate.
Nose is very Chardonnay but the palate was so rich and the bitterness made me think of Vermentino.
Not a fan.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2011 Domaine Gramenon Vinsobres La Papesse France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Vinsobres
Tasted Blind.
Opaque and thick. I wish I could smell the wine but the alcohol is just too much. Full body, blue fruits, chocolate and a strange alcohol imbibed bread pudding note. Powerful tannins which showed very bitter on night one and were much more sophisticated on day 2.
Overall the wine did improve overnight but as much as I want to like the wine (I love the Sierra du Sud), this is just too much.
Mainly grenache on clay-limestone soil. 12 months in oak barrels.

Red
2012 La Grange aux Belles Vin de France Brise d'Aunis France, Vin de France
Tasted Blind.
Very peppery with a green note like geranium with violet. The geranium aspect disappeared with time in the glass as dark fruits started to emerge on the nose. I thought there was also a touch of heat (on the palate as well) although the wine is 13%. Similar palate with dark fruits and plum. Gained body with time as it was a little thin at first. A hint of celery on the finish (day 2). Rustic.
Fun wine to drink without too much thinking...
Mainly pinot d'aunis with a little bit of gamay.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
2004 Domaine Lionnet Cornas Terre Brûlée France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Tasted Blind.
Really nice and improved over 3 days to show best on the last day.
Somewhat polished for Cornas, complex and with a nice depth.
Smoky, cedar notes, bright dark fruits and meaty. Hint of licorice. Superb balance between ripeness and acidity as it flows on the palate.
Looks like it is slowly entering its drinking window but there's no rush. Will improve.

Red
2009 Domaine de Montcy Cheverny Louis de la Saussaye France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Cheverny
Tasted Blind.
Nice nose, a little bit like a Bug with age (thought it was older than '09). Griottes, blackberry. A touch of Roger Gallet soap flagrance and an old wood touch. Quite elegant especially considering the vintage, silky. Chalky, cassis on the finish.
Thought the pinot influence was on the nose while the gamay shows more on the palate.
Very enjoyable wine.
60% Pinot, 30% Cot and 10% Gamay.
