Flight 1 - Whites (3 notes)
White
2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Meursault 1er Cru Santenots
Medium yellow. Fairly big and buttery, glossy feel. Ripe pear fruit, a little hazelnut, late acidity, moderately oaky base. Not very dynamic or complex, but the most recognizable of the 3 whites as Meursault.

2008 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Meursault 1er Cru Santenots
Deeper than the '09. Sulfur stink. Lactic entry, less fruit, good density. Bitter, harsh finish despite not having much more acidity than the 2009. Maybe you can write this poor showing off to sulfur that will resolve, but I'm not so sure about that. I see that I enjoyed it much more a couple of years ago, when it was more typical of the appellation.
White
2007 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Meursault 1er Cru Santenots
Same deep yellow as the 2008. Leesy, floral nose. Lighter, less wood, more elegant and more lemony than the other 2 vintages. Good acidity and minerality, gains a bit of texture. My favorite wine of the vintages presented and the least Meursault-like.
Flight 2 - Reds (3 notes)
Red
2010 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets
Medium red. A nose of earth and brambly fruit that brought Savigny to mind. Lovely medium light feel with a sappy core of black fruit and licorice. Tingling acidity, excellent penetration and persistence. Upon reflection, a tad bigger than most Angerville Volnay, but more refined than the aromatics would suggest.

Red
2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets
Much lighter center, tawny edge. Forward creosote and perfume aromatics-this smells older than it is. Sweeter entry, redder fruit than the 2010. Medium weight, caramel, fairly open-not nearly as taut as the younger vintage. This avoids the excesses of the vintage and is good if unexciting. I must say that in contrast to the '10, which is like Pommard in some ways, this is Volnay.

Pale, translucent. Floral, briary nose with some funkiness as well. Lighter weight, tart red fruit, electric acidity that is well integrated. Structurally, this is much more akin to the '10 than the '09, but is a significant step down, without the balance or completeness of 2010. Still, for a leaner Cru in a high acidity vintage, not bad at all and may improve and soften over 3-5 years.
