Flight 1 (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Ulysse Collin Champagne Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut (2009) Les Maillons France, Champagne
92 points
Tasted blind, base 2009 Deg. 2012: Light salmon in color. Nose of quinches, strawberry and flowers. Very fine 'bullets' and nicely balanced. Long and elegant. Still on the young side and I expect more to come in a few years. Wait - 2016.
White - Sparkling
2008 Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Extra Brut Orizeaux France, Champagne
92 points
Tasted blind: Golden in color. Nose of brioche and Granny Smith apples. The acidity is still dominant. Powerful, long yet elegant. The taste suggests that the producer uses oak barrels. Drink now over the next 10 years.
White - Sparkling
N.V. André Clouet Champagne Un jour de 1911... France, Champagne
88 points
Tasted blind: Golden in color. Nose of red berries, caramel, but then I taste some 'gravy' notes in the background. Nicely balanced but on the sweet side. That can be explained by the higher dosage and as I was told the aging in used Sauternes barriques. Overall a good wine but I am just missing the special something.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
2005 Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Inflorescence Blanc de Noirs La Parcelle Côte de Béchalin France, Champagne
89 points
Tasted blind, bottle deg. Apr-2012: Light straw yellow. Smell of roses, green apples and yeast. Very fine bubbles, nice sweetness, long and balanced. Too young. I expect this to be at 91pts in 2-3 years. Wait - 2016
White - Sparkling
N.V. Eric Rodez Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
Tasted blind: Mature dark golden yellow. Nose of sweet and ripe fruit, wood and something that reminds of a Solera wine. Wonderful sweetness (not dosage, fruit), long, complex and powerful. My first wine from Rodez but a clear indication how well the producer works.
White - Sparkling
2009 Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules France, Champagne
87 points
Tasted blind, deg. 2012: Golden in color. Nose of pecan, white peach. All is very sweet and the wine has quite a high dosage. Not at all my cup of tea.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Les Crayères France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
96 points
Tasted blind, Bottle disgorged in 2009. 49 months on the lees. Base (likely) 2004: Dark golden color. Nose of camomile, yeast and ripe apples. The acidity is still present, but not as noticeable as the wine has so much depth and power. Taste of Caramel and nuts. An amazing BdN Champagne and yet another beauty from Egly-Ouriet. Drink now over the next 10 years.
White - Sparkling
2008 Marie-Noëlle Ledru Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée du Goulté Blanc de Noirs Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Tasted blind: Golden in color. Nose of granny smith and bread crust. Long, elegant and nice balance. But, LOTS of acidity and quite aggressive bubbles. I am sure this settles over time but at the moment this wine does definitely not win my heart. Wait a few more years.
White - Sparkling
2006 Roger Pouillon et Fils Champagne 2Xoz Brut France, Champagne
94 points
Tasted blind: The color reminds of a Rosé Champagne. Red berries especially gooseberry. Lots of power, great balance and length. At the same time highly elegant. This is an excellent Champagne worth every effort to find it. My first time I even heard from this producer. Drink now - 2020

Flight 4 (3 notes)

Red
1999 Bollinger Rouge La Côte aux Enfants France, Champagne, Coteaux Champenois
92 points
Tasted blind: Intensive clear red. Nose of dark cherries, coffee and pencil. The wine reminds of a very good Burgundy and shows that Bollinger has very good basic wines. Usually this wine is blended into the Rose Champagnes. Drink now - 2020
Red
1981 Arthur Barolet et Fils Clos Vougeot Collection du Docteur Barolet France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
90 points
Tasted blind: No notes taken. I recall this wine as a fully mature wine. Surprisingly it kept on developing over the period of an hour, raspberries, oak but at the same time mushrooms and quite earthy notes. Quite a surprise for a wine out of a poor Burgundy year. Past its peak but still enjoyable.
Red
1978 Maison Albert Bichot Clos Vougeot Domaine du Clos Frantin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
92 points
No notes taken but I recall this as a vivid very nicely matured Clos de Vougeot. Now fully mature but there was is still enough fruit left for the next 10-20 years. Quite a surprise...
