Introduction
Domaine Georges Noellat - apparently a future star of Burgundy.
Flight 1 (10 notes)
Red
2009 Georges Noellat Nuits St. Georges
2009 is indeed a good vintage for Burgundy! Drinking well early too. Mild earthy nose. This was fresh and bright on the palate, with juicy red apples. Slight earthy undertone and a bit of spice. Just a lick of tannin on the long finish. My favourite wine of the tasting.
Red
1990 Georges Noellat Nuits St. Georges
Compared to the 2009, this had developed a lot more earthiness. Lots of sweet earth on the nose to the palate. Forest floor. Complex.
Red
2001 Georges Noellat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots
Lots of mushrooms on the nose. Sweet earth and bit of truffle on the palate. Rich and well-structured. Some spice towards the finish.
Red
1989 Georges Noellat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots
Muted nose. Smooth mouth-feel with good balance of apples and earth. No spice here as compared to the 2001.
Red
2008 Georges Noellat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts
Earthy nose. Dark fruits on the palate. Powdery tannins quite apparent. In my opinion, paled in comparison to the Nuits St. Georges from Georges Noellat. Could also be due to the lesser vintage (2008).
Red
1996 Georges Noellat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes
Mushrooms +++. The mushrooms dominated from nose to palate. I couldn't get much else.
Red
2003 Georges Noellat Vosne-Romanée
Simple tasting. Bit of tannins but quaffable. Nothing more to say. Disappointing Vosne-Romanée.
Red
2008 Georges Noellat Echezeaux
Good expressive nose. Smooth on the palate and nice mouth-feel, but otherwise taste is quite average.
Red
2004 Georges Noellat Grands-Echezeaux
Nose of mushrooms. Nice mouth-feel with sweet earthy flavours. Very slight green hints, characteristic of the 2004 Burgs.
Red
1989 Georges Noellat Grands-Echezeaux
Had been aired in bottle for about 2+ hours already. Wonderful expressive nose. On the palate, sweet, earthy, and complex, but fruits long gone. Still enjoyable though.
Closing
The Nuits St. Georges were of a much better standard than the Vosne-Romanees, and in my opinion, more enjoyable and more value for money as compared to the Echezeauxi.
