Introduction

An enjoyable evening after rehearsals in Wellington with a good friend was made all the more special by two stunning luxury cuvees from Craggy Range winery,

Flight 1 (2 notes)

White
2007 Craggy Range Chardonnay Les Beaux Cailloux New Zealand, North Island, Hawke's Bay
93 points
Absolutely gorgeous, complex and highly worked "peaches and cream" style with tell-tale Hawkes Bay acidity which brings focus and grace to the wine. Easily one of New Zealand's great chardonnays. Still a baby.
Red
2001 Craggy Range The Quarry New Zealand, North Island, Hawke's Bay, Gimblett Gravels
93 points
Amazing Bordeaux blend from Hawkes Bay that is very new world in style and resembles Napa cults more than it does any Bordeaux benchmark. Opulent plum and blackberry fruit quality marry with silky and warm oak handling. Massive power and complexity with some heat on the finish (ala Napa cults), but the richness of the fruit balances the alcohol very well. Still an absolute baby and should safely go another 5 years and I would not be surprised to see it hit 20 years in fine shape.
