Oscar night wines

At home

Introduction

Popped a few beauties with a lot a Cab Franc to enjoy while watching the Oscars. One French Bordeaux and one Napa red Bordeaux. Went with Bevan EE one of my favorites and tossed in WS #2 in 2013 to compare. Russell blew the roof off to me and my wife. Just such purity of fruit and aromatics.

Red
2010 Château Canon-la-Gaffelière France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Decanted this infant for 12+ hours. Still tight. Very aromatic. Fruit is there just needs more time. Dense in the mouth. Well made. Integrated for be being so young. Still surprised its WS #2 of 2013. Good but not mind blowing.
Red
2009 Bevan Cellars EE Cuvée USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

This wine was singing tonight after 6 hour decant. Fruit forward but not overly extracted or jammy. Just a super wine. Great mouthfeel and florals and spice and finish. I am beginning to sound like a broken record. Russell is a star and his wines hit my sweet spot.
