Decanted for close to 2hrs prior to drinking. Nicely concentrated with classical pauillac characteristics of blackcurrants and cedar. Still a touch heavy on the oak but trust that this will integrate over time. This wine is developing nicely and I expect it will continue to improve over the next decade.

2009 Ca' Marcanda (Gaja) Magari Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Decanted for an hour before drinking. Pleasant aromas of dark fruit and vanilla but somehow the wine felt a bit hollow compared to when I drank it earlier this year. Still well balanced with soft tannins but just felt a bit thin. Hopefully it is a one-off. Still maintain that the wine is ready to drink now and there is limited upside to holding.

Popped and poured. This wine has a lot of everything- high alcohol, tannic, sweet, smoky, spicy- but somehow it all comes together in a coherent package which is surprisingly well balanced. Likely better if it had been given some air. My guess is this still at least 5 years from its peak.

2009 Gaja Langhe Sito Moresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC

Decanted for an hour prior to drinking. Solid, reliable, and in my opinion, good value wine from Gaja. Rich and powerful with a nice smokiness to it. Medium plus finish. This is either at or approaching its peak.
