Flight 1 (6 notes)

Red
1982 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Jimsomare USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Medium red color, lots of bricking. Leather and soy on the nose with the smallest hint of red fruit, old dusty and musty cellar scents. Light herbal, dried cherry notes. A tad tired when compared to the others, more old than anything else. A hint of sweetness in the mouth. by itself this would be a decent bottle but when compared to the others it lacks freshness and vibrancy.
Red
1983 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Jimsomare USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Blood red color with slight bricking. Almost a chalky like cherry tums aroma, mineral nose. Herbal red pepper, expanding nose, deep ad rich fruit. More of the intense vegetal elements in the mouth, red pepper like, less greenness. Even some game like characteristics, the most complex of the bunch, just didn't have the fruit or balance to support the other elements.
Red
1985 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Jimsomare USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Color darkens up compared to the 82/83. Big aromas of red fruit, cigar box, maybe a touch of oak, glycerol. Big in the mouth, tannic, dry, big rich fruit. Seemed a bit simple compared to others, not as complex but has some promise. Almost seems a bit clumsy, not sure if time will calm this one down.

Super pretty nose, round and rich with lots of dense chewy fruit. Lovely balance in the mouth, fresh acid, tons of integration with fruit and all aspects in the mouth. Balance and freshness are the hallmarks of this wine. Nose lifts with sweetness and tobacco, cedar, baking spice and some herbal elements, seems the most bdx to me when compared to others in the flight.
Red
1988 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Jimsomare USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Color starting to darken up compared to others in the flight. Lovely spice elements, cedar, perfume like red fruits, floral elements. Gentle in the mouth, great balance of tannin and acid. A touch dry with tannins firming up a bit, great concentration and a wine that could maybe use a few more years to unwind just a touch more.
Red

Lots of sweet red fruit, lacking some finesse and complexity. Heady tannins, decent balance and length, doesn't quite yet seem like its ready to go, needs a few more years.
