Flight 1 (8 notes)

Popped and poured. This was incredibly lush, forward and unctuous. Lots of almost sweet stone fruit aromas and flavors with brown spice. This was very "2003" in terms of being fat and forward, but is able to retain and show moderate energy and acidity. Very easy to enjoy, just easily overshadowed by the 2005 vintage in the next glass.

I haven't had this wine in 2 years, so am very pleased with how it is progressing. Lots of lemon, lime and lemon custard aromas to start. Slightly more tropical notes emerged with more time, but at its core this wine retained great fruit, concentration and energy. The last sip, almost 5 hours after the bottle was opened, was the very best.
Red
1998 Domaine Anne Gros Clos Vougeot Le Grand Maupertui France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Black cherry aaromas and flavors, with some red cherry hints. Lots of Vosne styled spice everywhere. Very fresh and very long. Consistent with prior notes from bottles not corked, which has been a big problem for me with Anne Gros' otherwise amazing 1998s.
Red
1998 Domaine Leroy Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Lots of spice and floral dominate to start with quite mature red and black cherry aromas. Equally mature flavors, but with good density. Lots of pleasure today, but I wouldn't hold this much longer. I frankly preferred the Anne Gros 1998 CV in the next glass.
Red
1993 Domaine Jacques Prieur Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
flawed
Second time I've had this wine, both corked.
Red

Great spice aromas with red berries and cherry aromas. Unmistakably Vosne throughout. Very alluring. I'd like just a touch more concentration for this to be a great vintage of this wine.

1976 Domaine Jacques Prieur Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

I think this is the 3rd bottle I've had from this case and this was a great looking bottle with a perfect fill. Overall this was interesting and enjoyable in that purely tertiary manner, but there wasn't quite the complexity and nuance I'd hope to find here.

Open and decanted one hour before serving. Meaty, dense black berry and cherry everywhere. Still too young, but this is a delicious powerhouse that is sensational today and should continue to evolve for decades. Great harmony already, this just kept unfolding in increasingly interesting ways over a couple of hours in our glasses.
