Fontalloro vertical

Tasted January 20, 2014 by elledeca with 101 views

Introduction

First of two Felsina verticals, Rancia next week.

I came to the tasting with the received wisdom that Fontalloro is the more "modern" wine, with more generous fruit and a bit more oak, with more limited capacity to age. the wines did not show any of this. Classically-built with good acidity and tannin, hints of VA, and a fruit profile that tends more to the flower/herbal than the round sweet fruit. impressive capacity to age, first vintage for current drinking starting at 1995...with 1988 on the border between secondary and tertiary development and 1983 still going strong on a teady plateau of tertiary aromas.
