Flight 1 (8 notes)

Red
2006 Bergström Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Dull ruby garnet, good clarity, lighter rim; medicinal dark cherry, sour cherry, spice; sour cherry on the palate, a little 1 dimensional, good acid, some age, cranberry, some spice on finish not enough to make this wine very interesting; meh.
Red
2009 Shea Wine Cellars Pinot Noir Estate Shea Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Dull see through ruby; pine, sour cherry, cranberry, stems; softer tannin, cough syrup, some bitter, good sweetness, fat in the middle; good.

Red
2012 Round Pond Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Kith & Kin USA, California, Napa Valley
Black core with bright purple rim; ripe and figgy, sunshine, purple, tar, violets; fresh and new on the palate, bright purple fruit, red apple skin, pleasant grip, young, cinnamon; good but where was the cassis?
Red
2010 Robert Keenan Winery Merlot Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
Opaque core with brighter garnet rim; currant, cedar, green pepper, perfumed, not getting oak, spicy; soft and fleshy on the palate, good acid, fresh, softer, currant, caressing texture, blue fruit; correct and very tasty.
Red
2008 Sineann Cabernet Franc Champoux Vineyard USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Horse Heaven Hills
Dark core with dull reddish violet rim; currant, stewed cherry, leather, some funk, green in the background, mint; menthol on the palate, stewed fruit, nice texture, blueberry, clove; tasty and in a good spot.
Red
2007 Robert Keenan Winery Merlot Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
Dark core with dull garnet crimson rim; currant, red and dark fruit, vanilla, green note; currant, taut structure, vanilla, some blueberry; good; quite different from the 2010 served wine before last.
Red
2007 Palmeri Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley
Dark core with garnet rim; currant, bay leaf, slight stewed cherry, spice, almost mushroom; soft texture, menthol, good structure; tasty; liked the complexity; the ripeness of the fruit says to drink sooner.
Red
1971 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley
Dark chocolaty core with thin brown rim; cigar, leather, pencil lead, caraway, celery seed, aged; dark fruit, leather, sweet soy, slight brown sugar, currant, celery seed, aged spice notes; wow, definitely aged but not dead yet; should have been served earlier rather than last but a very cool experience.

Closing

A night of fresher and older examples:
OR Pinot: Shea fresh - Bergstrom older
Robert Keenan Merlot: 2010 fresh - 2007 older
Napa Cabernet: Round Pond too fresh - Chappallet much older - Palmeri just right
