Very closed on the nose, even after 5 hours. Hints of citrus, oak and flint. Deep, and concentrated on the palate with a viscous mouth feel. Full and coating, but not giving up much.

Drank over 5 hours. Thick, dense and meaty. Lovely spice came out with time. Quite a bit of earth and dark fruit on the palate. Round and complete in the mouth with excellent balance and medium finish with great grip.

Superb nose of spice, red fruit, dried roses and touch of earth. There was a funkiness that came and went for the first hour, but thankfully disappeared for the remaining 4 hours. Vibrant with outstanding spice and stem note on the palate. Touch of Rhubarb later in the night. Perfect drinking spot right now and the spice is delicious.

I wasn't sure about this with my first sip, but I came around quickly and this became my WOTN. Outstanding red fruit and dried roses on the nose and palate. With time, this got sweeter and took on superb spice. Vibrant and youthful and I am stunned how well this is showing given the age. Perfect finish with outstanding grip. Wonderful!

1943 Château La Mission Haut-Brion

The nose jumped from the glass with intense dark fruit and smoke, smoke, smoke. Earth and mushrooms on the palate. Wonderful balance and tremendous harmony. More sweet dark fruit and weedy tobacco came out with time and I am amazed at just how alive this wine still is. We decanted and drank over 3 hours and it kept improving.
