Introduction

And so we are here again. I was recovering from a bit of a cold but was over the worst of it. Mere Catherine looked good on paper and had some decent reviews and, as they didn't have a website, I just brought along a selection of wines to try. All reds double decanted two hours prior to drinking

Flight 1 (5 notes)

White
2009 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Puligny-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Medium minus intensity aromas of cream, muted lemon and very slight peach, slight honey and toast. On the palate the wine is juicy with a slightly tart lemon quality initially then some tasted peach and very slight cream and mid palate fur. A bit 'pointy' probably a drink up for me.
Red
2009 Domaine des Croix Corton-La Vigne au Saint France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Cherry and slight candy floss, caramel and spice on the nose. In the mouth the wine is juicy with spice and cherry and a bit of alcohol warmth on the finish. It's rather nice but is still a bit young.
Red
2004 Château Sénéjac France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Nice but tired though, leather, alcohol on the nose, cedar and spice, a touch musty if you will. In the mouth there is some sour cream, spice, vanilla, slight and muted bramble and leather. Faded as the evening went on.
Red
2010 Vietti Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
Ripe cherry over plum on the nose and the palate. Tight tannin and plentiful acidity, also slight caramel notes on the palate. Still needs time. But good.
Red
2009 M. Chapoutier Crozes-Ermitage Les Varonniers France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage
blackberry over black pepper, cream slight crushed rock, spice and a certain oak sweetness here as well. It's still a bit young but shows potential…actually, it's a bit out of whack at the mo'. Probably not at it's best here and, on this taste, not a good QPR.

Closing

Food was pretty awful. Wine was okay...Vietti & Croix were the pick on this outing.
