Flight 1 - At Krua Thai restaurant (1 note)

White
2012 Jovino Pinot Gris USA, Oregon

Solid neutral wine. Some stone fruit and estery aromatics, low intensity. On the palate, just a slight bit of bitterness. Seems dry, but with moderate to slightly diminished acidity. Overall it’s very nice light balance, not driven by acid or bitterness. Just, light with a bit of weight and texture to it. Went well with Thai food.
Score: around 8.0

Flight 2 - At Canela Bistro (4 notes)

The reds were all medium bodied, with low tannins and slightly elevated acidity, resulting in a ripe cherry impression on the finish. They are reddish to red-brownish in fruit. All showed oak, though for me I had a hard time picking out the oak on the nose except for the Caudum Rioja (so much Bourbon character!). In the palate it registered as nutmeg and light sawdust.

White
2013 Do Ferreiro Rías Baixas Rebisaca Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas

Slightly elevated aromatics. Lemony.
On the palate, medium bodied, high acid, some florals and thiols.
Score: around 8.0
Red
2008 Bodegas Asenjo & Manso Ribera del Duero Ceres Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
77 points
The most primary of the three reds. Ripe dark fruit on the nose. In the mouth, red fruit with slightly elevated acidity - finishes as sour cherry. Light tannins. Light oak spice and sawdust on the palate.
Score: between 7.5 and 8.
Red
2010 Bodegas Larraz Rioja Caudum Selección Especial Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
78 points
"Pie Franco" cuvee.
On the nose, dead-on Maker’s Mark - maple syrup Bourbon notes (this is some intense American Oak aging!) Slight acidic lift - slightly elevated acidity. Red fruits, but ripe.
Score: between 7.5 and 8

Winemaker's notes:

Red

Dark oxidative reddish-brown fruit, ripe. Black liquorice. Hint of buttery oak. Slightly elevated acid.
Score: between 7.5 and 8
