Flight 1 (8 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Champagne Suenen Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Apple, spice and toast. Has plenty of apple flavour on the palate, good acidity and nice pure fruit. Seems like really good value.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Tradition Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Disgorged July 2014. A fresh nose of citrus, cherry and apple. The acidity is fresh and lively with good drive and balance.
White
2011 Giaconda Chardonnay Estate Vineyard Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth
90 points
Matchstick, orange peel, pear and straw. Medium bodied, there is some substance to it which I haven't necessarily seen with other bottles. Has some style and presence - think this is starting to show better than on release and may improve further, though probably won't get to the level of some of the great years of this wine.
White
2007 Domaine des Nembrets Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes Les Folles France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
flawed
Oxidized.
Red
2003 Curlewis Pinot Noir Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong
89 points
Rhubarb, stalk and smoke with a little jammy red fruit. Palate shows off the fruit power but I still like what it delivers. Drink now and for the next few years.
Red
2003 J.B. Becker Wallufer Walkenberg Spätburgunder Auslese trocken Germany, Rheingau
90 points
Strawberry, raspberry, spice and stalk. Great fruit weight on the palate, there is style and spice with great structure - flows with purpose. Saved a half bottle to show to some others and it had fallen over within about 4 hours - definitely needs to be popped and poured.
Red
2011 Faiveley Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
91 points
Pretty nose with cherry, florals and a whiff of ash. Fine detail on the palate with excellent tannin structure that is sewn into the wine. Feels seamless and like it will develop beautifully from here.
Red
2013 Lamoresca Sicilia Rosso Italy, Sicily, Sicilia
90 points
Served blind but I picked it. Very aromatic - floral, raspberry, smoke and minerals. Has the classic tannin profile of the region - the fruit though is clean and driven and works well with that grip.
