Birthday Dinner

Tasted August 29, 2015 - August 30, 2015 by newkid17 with 248 views

Flight 1 (1 note)

Red
2013 Ancillary Cellars Pinot Noir Sangiacomo Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
89 points
I opened this hoping that it would be my Pinot for the night after the Cirq that I opened was too young. It was opened for 3 hours after removing a glass to allow for a better slo-ox. It was still tight and somewhat hot. I am sure that with more time it would have come around, but I could not wait any longer. It is still a great wine, but I would let it rest for another year or two.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Red
2012 Cirq Pinot Noir TreeHouse USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Not going to rate this because I never allowed it to do its thing. I opened this wine 4 hours prior to serving. I removed a glass to help with a better slow - ox. I am sure that decanting would have helped. It is young, but not "hot" and high in alcohol. You can tell that this will be special in a few years.

Day 2 - This bottle had opened and showed beautifully. It was smooth, soft, full of cherries, and had a long finish. Amazing wine worth the wait

Flight 3 (1 note)

Red
2013 Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
93 points
Very gamey nose. The taste, though, is more floral, red fruits (no cheesy) and some citrus. Medium finish. Popped and poured initially, with this note, and as the night went on it opened up even more and became more expressive.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
2008 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Oakville USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
94 points
Opened 4 hours prior to serving. This was the second flight after the Rivers - Marie pinot (Kanzler). Initially, spicy - lots of pepper. It then opened up and was so smooth, black fruits, smoke, and some leather. Hints of dark chocolate.

Flight 5 (1 note)

Red
2012 Bevan Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Wildfoote Vineyard, Vixen Block USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District
98 points
AMAZING! Big and BOLD. It is all blue fruit, milk chocolate, fruit forward, and with a very long finish. This was the third flight of the night. It followed a Rivers-Marie Pinot and a 2008 Far Niente. Everyone talked about this wine. Thanks to those at Bevan for making such great wines!!
