1999 F.X. Pichler Riesling Smaragd Ried Kellerberg Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

A deep, concentrated wine full of citrus, orchard fruits and minerals. Powerful, tangy and supremely lengthy on the finish. The acids here really keep this 16 year old wine youthful and fresh. This has legs to go more time in the cellar.

White
1999 Nigl Riesling Senftenberger Piri Privat Austria, Niederösterreich, Kremstal

This was utterly breathtaking; so much drive and punch. Very sleek, svelte and shimmering on the palate with perhaps the most minerality I've encountered in a wine for some time. The endless finish was a lip-pursing, saline, and drenched with wet stones. Wow.
White
2001 Weingut Josef Jamek Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Achleiten Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

Classic GV notes of lentils and white pepper. The fruits lean towards pears and grapefruit with good, herbal tinged acidity. Nice, crisp wine, but this doesn't quite excite like the other wines poured this night. It held well on day two, but didn't improve.
Red
2012 Marie et Pierre Bénetière Côte-Rôtie Cordeloux France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
93 points
Very nice meaty, herbal and red-fruited wine. Hints of herbs, stones and olives appear on the palate of this light, elegant rendition of Cote Rotie. A lot going on here, with a grippy, structured finish. Improved quite a bit with air. Needs time, but shows promise.
