Introduction

A very nice mini offline with a nice group of wines. Everything showed great and our Chef/host Gavin Kaysen provided us with a stellar menu to pair with the wines.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

White - Sparkling
2000 Henriot Champagne Cuvée des Enchanteleurs Brut France, Champagne

Medium gold color. Drank 2+ glasses over an hour plus. I liked this initially, but I found that it really grew on me over the hour. The nose is full of apple, meyer lemon, lemon, some white blossoms emerge later, plenty of yeasty and a distinctive mineral note. The palate has apple, sour apple, quince, lots of stoney mineral, yeast - rather leesy, full bodied with a medium finish. I would agree that this seems more advanced than i would expect based on reviews. I wouldn't sit on it all that long.
White
2007 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Light gold color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes. Wow again, The nose is bursting again, full of bright citric fruits with tangerine and seashore air blowing strong. The palate doesn't miss a beat, taut with great tension, tangerine, lemon, meyer lemon, focused, fantastic minerality, and long powerful finish. This just has great depth and power while still its finesse. I can only imagine what time can do here.

1995 R. López de Heredia Rioja Gran Reserva Viña Bosconia Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
94 points
Dark red color, mild bricked margin. This had some air beforehand. Drank 2 glasses over 75 minutes. I just adored this wine tonight. Showing everything I remember from previous bottles. Wonderful nose with earth, a mix of red and darker fruits, fabulous cherry, lacquer, nice oak, aromatic, hi toned, spice. The palate is medium full bodied, elegant, showing depth in the middle and building energy, red fruits, cherry and raspberry, earth, briar, hints of dill and maybe some cigar, integrated tannins, and a long refined finish. Wonderful, can probably go 10 years. 94+pts.

2001 Domaine Y. Clerget Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Medium dark red color with a 1cm transitional margin. PNP, drank 1+ glass over an hour. Very nice with a funky earth that fades somewhat, cherry, metallic, subtle wood spice,. The palate offers a nice core of cherry, sour cherry, baked cherry pie, light medium body, deeply mineral in the mid palate with iron, fine tannins and a fairly sleek texture. This drinks really nicely now. Always a treat to find these, great QPR. 91+ to 92pts.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2009 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux 1ère Trie Clos du Bourg France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Medium gold color. This was a bottle that I'd coravined about a third off 6 months ago. PNP the rest of the bottle tonight. Drank 1+ glass over 30 minutes. Really shows nice chenin typicity. The nose is bursting with a mix of apricot and tropical fruits, pineapple, orange, wool, white flowers, and spice. The palate follows with very bright apricot and tropical fruits, pineapple, nectarine, brown sugar, creme brulee, full bodied, and long. Wow, quite fun to drink. 93+pts.
