Flight 1 (4 notes)

White - Sparkling
2009 Recaredo Cava Terrers Brut Nature Spain, Cava
88 points
Minerals and yeast, very dry but not austere, tight and crisp acidity, notes of citrus and herbs. Very pure but not terribly expressive.
White
2013 Domaine Auguste Clape St. Péray France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Péray
90 points
Only 800 bottles produced due to coulure. Quite a full yellow colour; intriguing and certainly not obvious nose, not easy to pin down, hints of herbs and bergamot zest, cologne, custard; the palate is juicy and soft, ripe but not overwhelming, relatively restrained style in spite of its 14% ABV, relaxed and flowing, lemon zest, salty minerals, bitters; good length. Quite a character.
Red
2011 Domaine Auguste Clape Côtes du Rhône France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
91 points
Very youthful purple colour; amazing nose, an explosion of crème de cassis and crème de pêche with touches of pepper and barnyard; the palate is tight and linear, pure and precise, mineral and fresh, with grippy polyphenols from the skins and ripe black fruit waiting in the wings; long and layered finish. Excellent, more masculine than the 2012. Drink 2018 - 2026.
Spirits
N.V. Staffhorst Gelagerde Moutwijn Jenever Netherlands
88 points
Produced since 2013 in the Staffhorst distillery in Utrecht, inspired by a 150 year old family recipe. Made from 100% lightly toasted malt, double distilled in a copper kettle and aged in French oak, 38% ABV. Amber golden colour; very aromatic nose, cinnamon, clove, juniper, citrus zest, pain d'épices, like a rich but dry Amaro; rich and juicy palate, fiery and youthful and a bit hot, soft texture, light flavours; aromatic finish, decent length.
