Good expression of Viognier. Reasonably viscous nature which is complemented by some creamy oak. Long and pure.
Red
2001 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
94 points
Drinking at maturity, this is a beautiful expression of a forward La Chapelle. Ripe raspberry, earthy and gamey complexity. Smoke and mineral. Impeccable balance. A serious wine for all its ripeness. This is true Hermitage and was a brilliant match for a Guinea Fowl recipe from 11 Madison Park.

Red
2001 Turley Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Acres USA, California, Napa Valley
92 points
Drunk after the La Chapelle 2001, this did not disappoint. Blackberry and blueberry, touch of Oak, dense earth, very structured and displays the intense and consistent palate integrity of the best examples. Riper and more linear, in the manner of the varietal, but this is a nuanced wine that did not feel monolithic, as many petit Syrahs are want to be. The palate feels ready ( although a less than tight cork might have suggested a more advanced example).
