Introduction

Dinner with friends, checking out the wine list, lots of natural wines but not much funk on any of the wines we chose

Flight 1 (5 notes)

White - Sparkling
2013 La Grange Tiphaine Montlouis-sur-Loire Nouveau-Nez France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Montlouis-sur-Loire
88 points
By the glass at Antidote in London. Fresh and clean, decent depth of flavour and a clean finish, a good aperitif
White
2007 Domaine Alain Chabanon Trélans France, Languedoc Roussillon, Vin de Pays d'Oc
90 points
From a fresher vintage, this was a lovely bottle, the age seemed told ce the freshness of the wine well, nice weight in the mouth, some mineral and apple flavour, excellent finish
Orange
2014 Radikon Pinot Grigio Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Venezia Giulia IGT
88 points
Almost pink in colour rather than orange. Bursting full of acidity, very fresh indeed, I think I'd prefer a year on this wine to be honest, but it was still a lovely drink and a great foil for many types of food.
Red
1994 Barbacarlo Montebuono Italy, Lombardia, Oltrepò Pavese
91 points
Drinking beautifully. Straight from opening the nose leaps out of the glass with wafts of both classic Nebbiolo and bright cherry but with some development. The fruit is still vibrant but marries the start of the savoury development really well, lots of pleasure in this bottle, our WOTN
Red
1990 Barbacarlo Montebuono Italy, Lombardia, Oltrepò Pavese
89 points
After the '94 this tasted far more mature, much more about the leather and earth than the fruit, delicious but just over shadowed by its younger sibling on the night.
