Flight 1 (8 notes)

White
2011 Calera Chardonnay Mount Harlan USA, California, Central Coast, Mount Harlan
90 points
Pop and pour, drank a glass over 45 minutes. Nice minerality. Quite buttery, he malo is evident. Well-balanced.
Red
2004 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Winery Hill Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
94 points
This took awhile to come around. Rather heady. Classic Oregon. Definite tertairy qualities right now, saddle leather, a little musk.
Red
2006 Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir Summa Old Vines USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
91 points
Bought on release. Drank a glass over about an hour. New world, but mellow and well balanced, and a little more complex than your average California pinot. This was not that different than any of their other pinot noir bottlings, including the sonoma coast.
Red
2011 Neely Pinot Noir Spring Ridge Vineyard Upper Picnic Block USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
86 points
Hot and brooding. Not that interesting.
Red
2011 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
89 points
Lots of pepper on the nose and palate. Good balance, nice acid. Quite light, almost thin.
Red
2012 The Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Noir Original Vines USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
92 points
This wine is big, but it's Oregon (I wrote "big" twice in my note) Ripe. Nuanced. Interesting. Lots of fruit. I believe my score is conservative. 92+.
Red
2006 Rhys Pinot Noir Swan Terrace USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
91 points
The nose is fresh, lively, complex and intoxicating. The palate is rather straight-forward. I love this nose, I wish the palate was in the same league. Nose is 94, palate is 89.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1988 Château Rabaud-Promis France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
90 points
As much as I liked this, I think I was the only one at the table that wasn't gaga over it. The nose is quite amazing and complex. It hits all the right notes for an aged Sauternes. I thought the palate was rather elderly, with dusty botrytis and less burnt sugar. It was nice to taste some vibrant acidity in a wine this old.
