Food included poached rhubarb with black sesame, marinated parsnips with fig saba. Black cod “toast” with maitakes, buttery favas, fermented turnips and lemon oil.

The food was surprisingly unexceptional. Nothing really popped for me.

The format was difficult and messy to share. The small quantities stressed me out with the logistics of sharing. All in all it was a lovely evening with friends, but the fussy nature of the food got in the way, rather than adding to the evening.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

White
2014 Matthiasson Sauvignon Blanc Ryan's Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley

Mineral. Low aromatics but high acid. Very nice! Some mid-palate stony fruit.
Around 9
pH 3.1
TA 8.6
Alc. 12.5%
No malo, 10 months barrel age.
White
2012 Daniel & Julien Barraud Pouilly-Fuissé Les Chataigniers Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé

Moderate plus impression of oak! Mineral and long. I prefer the more steely Matthiasson, but this is nice as well. 8.5-9
Red

86 points
Fresh, with slight earth.
Medium plus acid, decent structure - a touch of tannins.
Red
2010 Antoniolo Gattinara Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Gattinara
87 points
A bit reticent but lovely aromatics of leather, dried flowers.
Medium plus acid.
Elevated alcohol (14%)
High tannins.
