Introduction

Seven of us met at Wink for a nice dinner. The food at Wink is very good, but their air conditioning didn't work all night long, making the dining experience an uncomfortable one as temperature inside the restaurant must have been around 88 degrees. The glassware and service were all excellent.

Food standouts were the pan seared sea scallops and the loin of lamb. Not memorable were the terrine du foie gras and the pasta with shaved black truffles.

Medium ruby color. The nose was initially dominated by an animal fat aroma. With time, it developed a floral, fruity nose. The wine is medium bodied, clearly on the elegant campus, with very soft tannins and an easy drinking quality. It received 3 votes as red WOTN.

Very dark purple color. The initial whiff was worrisome: wet cardboard and musty. I believ this wine was corked, although mildly. With swirling, the mustiness blew off, allowing a dark fruit aroma. As soon as the swirling stopped, the mustiness returned. The wine was slightly higher in acidity than what you would expect. The finish was disjointed and tannic. A dissapointment. This was clearly the least liked red of the night.

Very dark ruby color. The nose was georgeous, offering caramel, red and black fruits and vanilla. The palate offered a greatly textured, full bodied wine that is intensely flavored, long and ripe. An exotic bomb shell and a tribute to the Bob Foley style. My and 3 others' WOTN.

Beautiful, deep golden color. In the nose, there is bee honey, pears and apricot. The palate is better in this unctuous, concentrated, full bodied elixir that despite its sweetness offers crisp acidity that gives you goosebumps. There is the typical bitterness asscoaiated with heavy botrytis. Too bad it was served too warm.
